Which plan fits

How much does UpToDate cost?

For an individual in the US, UpToDate costs $579 for one year, $1,069 for two years or $1,449 for three, or $62 every 30 days on recurring billing. Physicians, nurse practitioners and nurses see the same prices. Pro Plus costs $699 a year and Pro Premium $879 a year, and students, residents and fellows pay $219 a year. Prices exclude sales tax. Main limitation: these are list prices for one person; many clinicians already have access through a hospital or health system, so check with your employer before buying.

What does each plan include?

These are UpToDate’s own descriptions from its store and its Pro comparison page.

  • •UpToDate: 13,000+ topics across 25 specialties, graded recommendations, calculators, interactive pathways, lab interpretation, select medication monographs, a drug interactions tool, patient education in up to 19 languages, CME and online and mobile access.
  • •Pro Plus: everything above plus a Kidney Dosing Tool, Rx Transitions for Mental Health, MobileComplete offline mobile access and CME state-tagged topics.
  • •Pro Premium: everything in Pro Plus plus a full UpToDate Lexidrug license.
  • •Trainees: the same clinical content and Expert AI, without CME; MobileComplete and Rx Transitions are add-ons.
  • •Devices: the mobile app can be installed on up to two devices.

Is UpToDate Expert AI included?

In the US, yes, according to UpToDate’s store, which marks Expert AI as included with the standard, Pro Plus and trainee plans, and its renewal page, which says Expert AI is now included in personal UpToDate subscriptions in the United States. Wolters Kluwer’s Pro Plus page still presents Expert AI as a Pro Plus feature, so confirm on the checkout page before you buy. Expert AI and Pro Plus are not available in every region; Pro Plus is offered in the US and Canada.

Does UpToDate include CME?

Yes, on the professional plans. Wolters Kluwer says physicians can earn up to 0.5 AMA PRA Category 1 credit for each point-of-care search cycle, with no limit on cycles, and nurse practitioners earn 1.0 AANP contact hour per hour of use, tracked automatically. Credit can also be earned while using Expert AI. The trainee plan does not include CME.

Are there discounts or promo codes?

UpToDate’s official discounts are built into its prices rather than offered as codes.

  • •Trainee pricing: $219 a year for students, residents and fellows, which the store describes as about 62% off.
  • •Longer terms: two- and three-year subscriptions cost less per year than paying annually.
  • •Automatic renewal: opting in takes 3% off the purchase and each additional year on annual terms.
  • •Add-on bundles: on the standard plan, the store discounts two add-ons by 20% and three by 25%.
  • •Groups: practices with 20 or more clinicians are directed to UpToDate Enterprise for a quote.
  • •We found no official UpToDate promo code. Third-party coupon sites are not UpToDate offers.

Add-ons, refunds and renewals

A few terms are worth knowing before you pay.

  • •Add-ons on the standard plan: MobileComplete $49, Desktop $49 and Rx Transitions $39 a year. Pro Plus offers only the Desktop add-on, at $49 a year.
  • •First-time subscriptions on annual or longer terms come with a 30-day money-back guarantee; renewal orders are final.
  • •30-day recurring billing is not refundable; cancel future cycles at least five business days before the cycle ends.
  • •We found no free trial for individual subscribers.

Is UpToDate worth the cost?

For clinicians who want a curated reference written and reviewed by physician editors, with CME that accrues as you search, $579 a year buys a well-established product. If cost is the barrier, several free tools cover part of the same ground: OpenEvidence is free for verified US clinicians and funded by advertising, Doximity Ask is free in Doximity’s app, and Vera Health, the top-ranked tool in our 2026 evaluation, is free for licensed clinicians and trainees. Main limitation of the free tools: they summarize the literature rather than offering UpToDate’s edited topic reviews, so compare them on questions from your own practice.
