Is Freed free?
No. Freed has no free plan. It offers a 7-day free trial with Premier features, and its help center says the trial needs no credit card and does not charge you automatically when it ends. After that, plans start at $39 a month. Freed also gives a free month to both people when one subscriber refers another.
- •Buying through the iPhone or Android app can cost more than buying on Freed’s website; the iOS App Store lists a $139 monthly subscription.
- •If you need a scribe that costs nothing, Doximity Scribe and OpenEvidence Visits are free for verified US clinicians.
How much does Freed cost?
Freed has four plans. Starter costs $39 a month for one clinician and up to 40 notes a month. Core costs $79 a month with unlimited notes. Premier costs $119 a month, or $1,248 billed annually, which works out to $104 a month, and adds visit prep, patient instructions and letters, EHR push, dictation and coding suggestions. Groups of two or more clinicians get a custom quote with admin tools and an organization-wide business associate agreement. Freed’s help center says only Premier has an annual option.
What does Freed do?
Freed listens to a visit, in person or by telehealth, and drafts a note in about a minute, according to the company. It offers specialty templates, custom templates and a feature that learns your note format. Freed says it can capture visits in more than 90 languages, but notes are written in English.
- •Coding Assistant (April 2026, Premier and Groups): suggests ICD-10, CPT and outpatient E/M codes with its reasoning. Freed says the clinician remains responsible for final coding.
- •Patient instructions and letters (Premier): instructions, referral letters, work and school notes.
- •Clinical Evidence (August 2026): answers to clinical questions from sources such as PubMed, Cochrane, the FDA and the CDC, which Freed markets as ad-free.
- •Main limitation: Freed publishes a 98% recall figure for medical terms but no method, and we found no independent accuracy study.
Does Freed integrate with your EHR?
Partly. On every plan you copy the note from Freed’s web app, mobile app or Chrome extension into your EHR. Premier and Groups add EHR push, which uses the Chrome extension to fill the chart you have open in your browser; Freed lists 13 browser-based EHRs, including athenahealth, AdvancedMD, eClinicalWorks, Elation, ModMed, NextGen, Practice Fusion, SimplePractice, Tebra and WellSky. It is not an API integration and needs Chrome on Windows or macOS, not an iPhone or iPad. The only two-way integration Freed describes is with athenahealth, for Groups customers.
- •Epic and Oracle Cerner are not on Freed’s EHR push list, so clinicians on those systems copy and paste.
Privacy, recordings and patient consent
Freed says it is HIPAA compliant and SOC 2 certified, and its business associate agreement is part of the terms you accept at sign-up. Its marketing says Freed does not store patient recordings; its help center is more specific, saying recordings are deleted after processing but recoverable for 48 hours, and that recordings kept for troubleshooting are held for up to 14 days. Notes and transcripts stay until you delete them, unless you turn on deletion after 30 days.
- •Model training: Freed’s help center says protected health information is never used for AI training, while its terms allow training on your data with consent given in the platform settings, and use of de-identified data. Check your settings.
- •Consent: Freed’s terms make the clinician responsible for obtaining the necessary consents, including written consent to record visits.
Freed for students and residents
Freed advertises trainee pricing, but its own pages differ. The pricing page offers 50% off the monthly individual plan with proof of training. Its help center, updated October 19, 2026, describes a pilot that gives eligible students, residents and fellows 12 months of Core at no cost, plus up to 50% off Premier. Confirm which offer applies before you subscribe.
Freed vs free AI scribes
The main difference is cost against convenience. Doximity Scribe and OpenEvidence Visits are free for verified US clinicians, and Medscape Scribe launched free for US clinicians in October 2024. All three rely on copying notes into the EHR. Freed charges for every plan but adds EHR push into browser-based EHRs, coding suggestions on Premier, and patient letters. Main limitation: none of these scribes has published independent accuracy results, so read every note before you sign it.
