The short answers

Is Vera Health really free?

Yes, for individual clinicians and trainees. Vera’s website says it is free for licensed clinicians and trainees with unlimited searches, and its own articles say there is no paid tier, no trial that turns into a subscription and no advertising. Its App Store and Google Play listings show no in-app purchases. Vera offers onboarding and partnership support for teams and institutions but publishes no price for it. Its terms still include standard clauses on fees and trials, so read any offer for an organization carefully.

Who can use Vera Health?

Vera’s terms require users to be healthcare professionals in practice or in training and at least 18. Its sign-up form lists physicians (MD or DO), physician assistants, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, pharmacists, residents and fellows, medical students and an Other option. You verify your status at sign-up, which Vera says takes about a minute, but it does not publish whether it checks an NPI, a licence or a student ID.

  • •Outside the US: its terms allow access from other countries, except places under US sanctions and people on US restricted-party lists.
  • •CME: the app shows a message that its accreditation does not yet cover every occupation, so check before relying on credit.

The Vera Health app

Vera runs on the web at verahealth.ai and in free apps for iPhone and iPad and for Android. On October 26, 2026, the iOS app was rated 4.9 out of 5 from about 2,100 ratings and needed iOS 16.4 or later, and the Android app was rated 4.9 from about 10,200 reviews with more than 100,000 downloads. You can sign in on the web by scanning a QR code from the app.

What Vera Health does

Vera answers clinical questions with citations, drawing on what it describes as more than 60 million peer-reviewed papers, clinical guidelines, drug references, trials and protocols. Its apps add interaction checks, contraindications and safety alerts, and more than 900 medical calculators, and Vera says each search earns 0.5 CME credit. In March 2026 the American College of Emergency Physicians announced a partnership that brings ACEP clinical policies into Vera’s answers.

  • •Main limitation: Vera’s published accuracy results are its own benchmarks from August 2025, and we found no independent evaluation. Check important answers against the cited sources.

Privacy and patient data

Vera’s privacy policy says it does not use your personal data to train its AI systems, and it will sign a business associate agreement on request. Its terms say you must not submit patient-specific clinical data to obtain a diagnosis. The privacy policy also allows Vera to create aggregated or de-identified data from use, including questions and answers, and to share insights with business and research partners, and it uses advertising cookies for its own marketing. Apple’s label for the iOS app says no data is collected, but that label is reported by the developer, and Google Play’s listing and Vera’s privacy policy describe data that is collected.

How Vera Health compares

OpenEvidence is also free, but it requires an NPI or other licence number, is funded by advertising and is not available in the EU, EEA or UK. UpToDate costs $579 a year in the US, or $219 for trainees, and offers expert-written topic reviews that Vera does not. Doximity Ask is free for verified US clinicians. Vera’s strength is combining cited answers, drug checks and calculators in one free app that also works outside the US.

Who makes Vera Health?

Vera Health is made by Veracity-Health Inc., a Delaware corporation based in San Francisco, founded by Maxime Allouch and Taieb Bennani and part of Y Combinator’s Summer 2024 batch. Vera’s own materials give different user counts, from 250,000 to 400,000 clinicians, so we do not quote one.
